Learn The Make-Up Secrets Of
If you are searching for an honest, reliable and, affordable make-up artist who can make you look beautiful enough to appear on the front cover of a fashion magazine… then this is going to be the most important message you will ever read. Here is why? My name is Fion Chang and a few years ago I worked in the marketing and training department of a very successful bridal make-up shop. This shop, located in Mong Kok, was owned by a friend of mine. At that time, my friend was opening her second shop and she wanted to expand her business. Because I had a background in sales and marketing… plus… professional training as a make-up artist, she decided to hire me as a consultant. I was responsible for training up her frontline staff to promote her wedding make-up services. In fact, business became so good (over 70 make-up jobs per month just from one shop alone), I occasionally had to cover for some of the other make-up artists. Maybe you’re asking yourself…
That’s exactly the point… because… I eventually stopped working in the bridal image business. Why? The answer is simple. After about six months in the business, I discovered some scams many bridal shops and make-up artists use to cheat their clients. Initially, many of the brides who came into the shop were happy. But, after their “big day”, their happiness turned to sadness. Enough was enough! And that’s when I decided to leave the business… even though… I loved what I did. Please don’t misunderstand me, I’m not saying all bridal make-up shops are bad. But… based on my experience, a lot of the make-up shops in Hong Kong’s most popular “wedding mall,” fail to live up to the expectations of their clients.
First of all, I do not know all the “tricks of the trade” when it comes to short-changing clients out of the best deals on bridal make-up… but… I will reveal to you what I do know. To begin with, let’s talk about the service charges. They will normally have several set packages for you to choose from and list the different prices for each package. For example, $2,888 for a morning and evening make-up session which includes hair styling sounds like a good deal, doesn’t it? However, there are many hidden charges you do not know about. I believe...
For example, when they are applying the foundation on your face, they’ll ask you to add $50 for a wet powder puff. Another $30 for a dry powder puff. Naturally, you have the right to reject them... but… they’ll tell you, “You can use the old ones without paying additional charges, but many people have used it before you.” So what would you think? O.K., when they’re applying the make-up, they’ll say, “Your eye brows doesn’t look good. Add another $90 and I’ll fix it up for you.” Finally, your bill ends up being $3,000 something. Now, if they do a good job, then you probably won’t mind. But I remember one time, a client returned to the shop in tears. She complained the make-up artists she booked for her wedding day was not even the same one who did her make-up trial. That’s like…
The wedding day make-up artists had no clue what this client wanted. Needless to say, the client’s wedding photos and videos didn’t portray her best side. Furthermore, they sometimes include “extra” fees which have nothing to do with the make-up job itself. For instance, they might tack on an additional $180 to your bill as an “early morning” transportation fee. What’s more, your “plan” might include two bridal accessories free of charge. But actually, it’s just two small hair clips. In fact, these things are not that big of a deal… if… it’s acceptable to you. The most important thing is that the shop doesn’t close down after you’ve paid them your money. Not too long ago, a local Chinese magazine reported there was this make-up shop that… after collecting all the money from its clients… closed down and re-opened under a different name… just so they could avoid refunding what their clients had already paid them. How low can you go? O.K., I don’t want to say anymore on this topic. I feel hiring a make-up artist should be a wonderful experience. But if there’s so many pitfalls to be on the lookout for, it’s not a good thing. Now, let’s get back to the story. What did I do after I left the bridal image business? Well, I returned to doing sales and marketing. In between my corporate job, I freelanced as a wedding make-up artists and continued studying the latest in make-up technology and make-up philosophy. Because I really love the artistry involved in applying make-up and enjoy making women look beautiful… all my friends took notice of my make-up creations. So, whenever any of them get married, they almost always insist on hiring me to help them with their make-up. Not only that, they introduce a lot of their other friends to me. Excluding make-up assignments I’ve done for parties and brides-maids, in the last few years, I have…
Also, there was a period I was busy with modeling make-up. In fact, you have probably seen some of my work in the “Wedding Magazine.” But the greatest satisfaction I get is… from the brides who show me their photographs of their wedding. They tell me, “People just can’t believe those wedding pictures of me are real.” Many of my clients compliment me on my work. They say, “Fion waves a make-up brush like a magician’s wand. She’s the only make-up artist I trust to perform a make-up miracle.” Therefore, my friends have given me the nickname…
Honestly, I really don’t think I deserve that title. Everyday, I am still learning and perfecting my skills. Anyway, I am delighted my client’s and friends appreciate my image creations. You know, I’ve been a make-up artist from 1999 to 2004, for almost five years. But what happened after that? Well, because I am just like you. I also had my “big day”. But it was in Canada. And that’s why, I had to put away my make-up brushes. Then, in the beginning of this year, my first son was born. After returning to Hong Kong with my new family, the first thing I wanted to do was to look for a job. Before I could even settle down, one of my old clients called me. She said, “My best friend is getting married. Can you do her make-up. She’s tried several make-up artist but haven’t found one that she likes.” Because I had to take care of my baby, I told her I didn’t have the time to help her friend. The next day, a long time friend called me and said, “You’re back in Hong Kong. That’s great! I’m getting married in November. Can you do my make-up.” Then I thought to myself…
Usually, at the wedding banquet, the bride and groom are rushed and unorganized because of unexpected events which pop up. Because of this, not only do I do make-up and hair styling, but I also assist my client’s in changing their bridal gowns. Since I’m quite familiar with the overall wedding event process and I know how chaotic things can sometimes get (boy was I a nervous wreck on my wedding day)… I like to help out wherever I can. I always try to go the extra mile. So much so… all of my clients treat me like one of the family. Most of my friends think I am perfectionists. This may be true. But why shouldn’t the most important day of any bride be less than perfect. I always put my heart and soul into all my make-up jobs because…
Based on the service I provide, everyone thinks I am stupid. They all agree I over deliver and undercharge. So, after more thought about my career, there’s only one thing that matters more to me than anything else in my life: my son. Let’s face it, every mother wants to have more time with their children and give them the best things in life. Well, I realized I couldn’t do that if I was to return to my former hectic and busy career. Therefore, I made the decision to become a full time make-up artist… to serve bridal clients with all my passion, skill and knowledge… so every one of them can truly experience a princess wedding. Then, I had to start my make-up business from scratch. But guess what? I had to buy new make-up products and tools all over again. When I first started in this business, many of my colleagues, at the time, advised me to use…
But I have a different point of view. If I knew someone had used inferior products on my face, I would be scared and very unhappy. That’s why I would never do anything to my clients that I wouldn’t want done to me. What does this mean for you? It means I only buy and use the highest quality make-up products… such as…Giorgio Armani, Bobbi Brown, Chanel, Christian Dior, Shu Uemura, Biotherm, etc. The brush set alone costs me $5,000. And believe me, these brand name products are not for my own personal use. I only have one purpose… and that is... to make you…
But, using good make-up products is not enough. You’ll also need a excellent “brush-master” to express it. In fact, make-up is very easy to do. But hard to become an expert. When I entered this industry, I wished every client was naturally beautiful. But God didn’t make everyone look the same. In other words…
No one is perfect. Even with someone as beautiful as a “super model,” you still need to know how to complement the right colors for her face. Otherwise, it’s better not to apply any make-up at all. A make-up artist is truly like a magician. They can reveal the bride’s best face in front of many people in one split second. Because I have worked on so many different faces and created a variety of designs. On your wedding day, I am 100% confident everyone will…
Listen to this: I did some part time modeling when I was younger. Much younger, mind you… and… even though I had the services of a make-up artists at my disposal, I preferred to do my own make-up. Why? The answer is easy. I knew my face better than anyone else; and with proper make-up, I was able to display my best “side” in front of the camera. Believe it or not, many beautiful women look rather ordinary in photographs while other more “plain” looking women come out looking spectacular. Since I have worked with so many photographers, I’ve developed a laser-like instinct to make sure my make-up designs will cause virtually any bride to be photogenic beyond imagination. Over the years, I have learned some make-up secrets. Powerful secrets… that will make the camera “love” you. So please prepare yourself to unveil a whole new you to the world because – on your “special” day…
Imagine as you appear on stage for the first time. All eyes are on you… then suddenly, the audience explodes into a thunderous applause upon your entrance. Wouldn’t you feel like you’re on top of the world? A moment to be etched in your memory forever. Well, that’s how your wedding should be like. Think about it. The photos from your once-in-a-lifetime event will remain with you for your entire life. Seems like a long time, doesn’t it? But remember, sometime in the future, your son or daughter (or maybe both)… and even… your grandchildren will see those precious photos of you and be reminded of how proud they are to have a mother as lovely as you. But hey, before I go on, let me explain something to you in advance so you don’t think I’m boasting.
You will understand what I mean after you see my complete service plans. Perhaps you will ask me how it is possible I can include so many benefits. To hire a good make-up artist at your beck and call for a morning and evening session will cost you around $3,000 to $4,000. (If you wanted to hire the make-up artist of famous celebrities, models or actresses, it would cost you at least double that amount: $6,000 to $8,000.) But whatever you do, please don’t compare a professional make-up artist to those inexperienced “student” make-up artists who charge ridiculously low fees. They sometimes offer their services for as little as a few hundreds dollars for a day and night make-up job. Or a thousand dollars for the whole day. I don’t know whether these make-up artists are desperate for business or just have poor technique. But one thing is for certain. If they were any good and confident of their abilities, they wouldn’t be undercharging for a bridal service as valuable as make-up design. Here’s the best news of all. My service plan is one-of-a-kind. I include many things which are not “standard” with other professional make-up artists.
The reason why is because this is my own personal business. I run it entirely myself. I don’t have any staff but, I occasionally do recommend jobs to other make-up artists when my schedule becomes too full. Therefore, my reputation is on the line with every make-up job I accept. Here’s what will happen when you choose me as your bridal make-up specialist. You will experience a make-up trial at my studio in Causeway Bay. It's located on Jardine's Bazaar. The make-up room is fully equipped and very comfortable. Although it is a small place, it can accommodate one other person. So feel free to bring along a guest if you like. Because of my low overhead costs, my fees are considerably less than those make-up shops found in high rental shopping malls. For that reason, you will find my fees to be reasonable and maybe… even a bargain. Keep reading. We’re almost finished. Now at this point, you probably want to see photos of my portfolio, correct? Of course, I’ll have one for you to look at during our make-up trial. But before then, you are welcome to view portions of it at my other website. The text is in Chinese. But don’t worry. The photos look the same in any language. Don’t mind me saying this… but… photographs are just a basic reference. Why do I say this? Because everyone has different requirements. Most people think my designs are excellent. But others feel there is room for improvement. The problem is, I will create a bridal Image…
The point is… everyone has their own favorite look. So, a design that might otherwise look good on someone else may look terrible on you. And vice versa. For example, some people (in fact, many men, including my husband) think Angelina Jolie is incredibly attractive. But there are people who think she is just “so-so” looking. Thus, using photographs of other people to judge a design for you is really quite subjective. I’m not saying this because you may be critical of my make-up technique (you should be). I’m just afraid you might miss out on the chance to find the most suitable make-up artist for yourself if your decision is based solely on looking at photographs of other people. Case in point: at the make-up company I worked for before, there was this one make-up artist who had returned from Japan after completing an advanced make-up course. I thought her technique was outstanding and she had a great personality and got along well with her clients. Quite frankly, I had no hesitation in recommending her to any of the bridal shop’s customers. But for some strange reason, after most of her make-up trials, many customers, in the end, did not go with her. I really do not know why. Maybe it’s got something to do with fate. That’s why this thing is very subjective. And you never know what the outcome is unless you give it a try. So, I sincerely invite you to give yourself a chance… and just possibly… you’ll discover a make-up magician to allow you to become the “princess” you deserve to be on your wedding day.
Obviously, you don’t have to decide to hire me right this moment. Because you haven’t tried my designs yet. So, while you’re thinking about it, I encourage you to first book a make-up trial appointment. Don’t wait until the last minute. I may not be available so…
One more thing. It’s important. During the make-up trial, because I use a lot of time and energy to try out various designs and styles, before we settle on the one look that is just right for you… if you cannot make a decision to go ahead… that’s okay. There will be a make-up trial fee of $400 to cover my expense. But don’t worry, I will give you a free Dermalogica facial coupon (value $499) good for use at an exclusive beauty salon in Central. (Click here now to reserve your appointment). This is a thank you gift from me to you for giving me a chance to serve you. Which in essence means…
On the other hand, if you like the design I create for you and confirm the booking immediately, I will waive the make-up trial fee. In other words, the make-up trial is free of charge. (You save $400). But here’s the icing on the cake. It’s a delicious bonus for trusting me to do your wedding make-up. I guarantee you won’t get this special bonus from any make-up shop or artist in Hong Kong. What is this bonus for hiring me? It’s a…
Yes! You read that correctly. It seems to me not many business owners don't appreciate their customers enough nowadays. I’m different. Not only is having a satisfied client very important to me, but I would like to thank my best clients for their support with something special. And that’s why I will give my clients who commit to a “Gold” bridal make-up plan (or higher), a holiday gift certificate for a free week’s stay at a beautiful resort in Asia. I am not kidding! You can enjoy this resort accommodation certificate anytime within one year. Use it to relax with your “honey” after you complete your busy wedding project. Kick-back and have a wonderful time at an idyllic beach resort to celebrate your future together. That means whatever you do, you have…
So think about it: For a couple of hours of your time, you have a real chance to discover a make-up artist that will be compatible with you… and help you create a “jaw-dropping” bridal image.
