“They Laughed When I Wanted To Become A Makeup Artist...
But When I Made $6,350 In One Day!”

Dear Friend:

reetings and welcome to MakeupMagician.com. My name is Fion Chang. Ten years ago, I was trying hard to find a good school to teach me how to do professional makeup… just as you are now… so I think I know what you might want.

In 1997, right after I entered the work force, I wanted to learn as many things as possible, especially those subjects that held my interest. At that time, I was learning everything I could to improve my skills. But learning to do makeup was my dream and I looked everywhere for information about becoming...

a master makeup artist.

But you know something: things were very different 10 years ago. Nowadays, we can get a lot of information by searching on the internet, but at that time, I had to go to many places and buy a lot of magazines in order to find suitable makeup courses.

What’s more, there were fewer makeup schools and makeup artists than there are today.

Nevertheless, I was determined to learn the art of makeup and I didn’t stop until I found a good school. In the end, I enrolled in several makeup courses.

I learned to do makeup from many places: Monita, Baptist, and even received special teaching from a great makeup master at a TV station and also Amy Gao.

Why did I go to so many places to learn makeup?

Because every time I finished a course, I always felt that there was still a lot to be learned. Hence, I went from course to course. Anyway, it’s not a bad thing to learn more. In the first two or three years, I just kept learning like this. Although there were different techniques offered at different courses… for the most part…

The Information Was The Same!

It goes without saying, but I spent a lot of money pursuing my passion.

And after attending so much training, I felt confused. On the one hand, I wished I could just learn the skills of being a successful makeup artist and start a freelance career or perhaps my own business. But on the other hand, I felt that I was not good enough…

Even After Several Years Of Study!

However, I was very bold at that time. I went out and did makeup jobs despite not feeling totally prepared. I was really clumsy on my first job because I never had any practical experience… although I had studied makeup for hundreds of hours.

Fortunately, I managed to keep myself calm and my customer was satisfied. It’s really different between what you learn in books and actual execution. Whatever theories you learn from...

Books Are Useless If You
Don’t Apply What You Learn
With Actual Customers!

Anyway, I’ve told you enough about my past. Now let’s talk about the present. Over ten years have passed since I decided to become a makeup artist. During this time, I have not only helped my clients look more beautiful, but also taught practical makeup skills to others.

I teach on an one-on-one basis (intensive personal coaching) as well as conduct small group classes.

I love teaching makeup because I like to share my experiences with others.

When I see a gorgeous makeup design created by my students, it makes me extremely proud, and therefore, I always reveal everything I know to my students.

I have experienced myself, along with other makeup artist students who have told me that some of their instructors will avoid teaching their very best makeup creation strategies. Sometimes, if you don’t know what questions to ask or you don’t know how to recognize a masterpiece makeup design, it’s hard to develop your skills properly. That’s why many of my students feel they have learned so much from me.

nothing is held back!

I won’t show you just any way (nor the most common way) to create a certain makeup effect… I’ll show you the very best way I know based on experience and innovative techniques that top makeup artists almost never share with anyone.

Not only that, but with most makeup artist schools, you don’t have much of a chance for real practice. But if you're my student, you’ll have opportunities to practice your makeup techniques because I can take you out to apply your makeup skills on real customers. That means you will earn real money, too.

Here’s another thing. As you’re learning to build your knowledge of being a professional bridal makeup artist, many large schools won’t offer you the chance to work at an actual wedding, whereas other smaller schools might, but just don’t expect to be paid. As for myself, I always take my students with me whenever I’m doing a makeup job (provided their skills aren’t too bad).

In a way, this kind of hands-on practical makeup training that I provide is not unlike an intern practicing under the guidance of an seasoned doctor before the intern becomes a fully licensed medical doctor. While theoretical knowledge is important.

There is no substitute
for real world experience!

Every customer has their own ideal of what a "perfect" makeup image should look like. You need to understand their needs as much as you know how to apply your makeup brushes.

Once a student gains enough experience and confidence, I usually end up cooperating with them by offering them freelance jobs. You see, I get regular makeup job offers from customers that I can’t help due to a lack of time. Between teaching, running a business and raising a family, I have little time left over to service my personal clients. So, rather than turning customers away, I recommend them to my students. It’s a win-win situation for everyone.

I mentioned about confidence just now.

But why?

Because some of my students who accompany me to a job will assist by doing the makeup for guests of the wedding party… a bridesmaid, a groom or a family member. They do part of my work and I pay them. It’s a good arrangement. We can makeup more people in a shorter period of time, and of course, charge higher fees.

However, some of my students were petrified at the thought of making up “real” customers. It was beyond their comfort zones since they had only practiced on other makeup artists, or friends, or models... basically... people who wouldn't complain much if they thought their makeup artist sucked. After all, these people weren't paying customers.

Why Good Makeup Artists
Can't Get work... And...
How You Can Avoid The Same Trap!

Not too long ago, I had a student who hadn’t been studying to do makeup for very long. Yet I decided to give her some real practice since I thought her technique was rather good. She was a fast learner and had exceptional hand/eye coordination and a good color sense.

Then, one day, I received a job to do makeup for a party. It involved doing the hairdos and evening makeup for three girls. I assigned the job to my student and made an appointment with the customers.

But get this, the day before the appointment, she informed me that she wouldn’t be going… because… she dared not. What a pity!

The best thing about learning to do makeup from me is having the chance to show your ability in a real job environment with real customers while I’m right there with you. Encouraging, guiding, and mentoring you. All the while revealing my hard-won secrets of maximum makeup beauty without being laughed at by your friends, colleagues, and worst of all, your customers.

That’s why my unique course is called Bridal Makeup Artist: A Practical Course. Not a makeup certification course or diploma that looks good on paper but doesn’t help you towards becoming a hard-nosed makeup artist who will earn the respect and admiration of your peers and customers.

The truth is… customers don’t care what you know. All they want to know is can you make them look like a million dollars. Nobody can hide behind their “education” forever before someone discovers they’re a fraud.

In the makeup business, the proof is in the pudding. One look by your customers and they’ll know whether you wield a makeup brush like a Michelangelo… or… apply makeup like a three-year old finger painting.

the real secret to a promising &
successful makeup artist career...

I wouldn’t be where I am today without practical experience. It’s that important to my success as a makeup artist. To your customers, your skill is more important than your knowledge. I hate to be blunt, but if you don’t accumulate real-world practice, your future as an in demand bridal makeup artist will be short-lived.

Now, there’s one more special feature of my course not available anywhere as far as I’m aware. Remember how I told you some makeup training companies might take you out to do a job; however, they will not give you jobs. You have to find jobs after you leave their school by yourself. This, believe it or not, is the most difficult part of your freelance makeup career.

You can’t do makeup on someone without first having customers to do it on, can you?

Well, I’m different. Very different. I help makeup artists kick start their careers after they've finished learning the art of creating breathtaking bridal images.

How do I help new makeup artist generate a busy schedule of makeup jobs? I’m glad you asked.

But before I tell you, let me explain a basic principle which almost all makeup artists overlook in their pursuit of becoming a sought after makeup artist.

As a freelance makeup artist, you are running a business. And to run your business effectively you need to do marketing. But doing marketing requires money.

Many people think that everything will be okay after spending money on their education… but… they are wrong. They forget the part about...

how to get business!

I see many talented makeup artists struggle to get business after graduation. They spend up to a hundred thousand dollars (sometimes more) to learn their trade and discover the road after graduation isn’t as smooth as they thought.

How do I make sure you don’t starve while doing what you love? The answer is easy. If you have the confidence and I think your work is good, I will partner with you. I will help to set up your portfolio, promote your services and attract customers to your business.

In fact, learning to be a bridal makeup artist means learning to do business. When you spend money to learn, you are investing in yourself and indirectly investing in your business. This investment includes all the beauty aids, accessories, cosmetics and tools you purchase as assets for your business.

After graduation some bridal boutiques may offer you a job, but from my experience, the chances are slim.

If you do get a job, during the first half year or one year, your salary might be three to five thousand dollars ($3,000 to $5,000) a month.

You won’t have many jobs in the beginning. Therefore, in the first year after graduation, you’ll have to rely on your own savings to support yourself. Besides that, don’t forget that you have to spend nine to ten hours every day in the bridal shop.

How much is your time worth? Certainly much more than what the bridal company is willing to pay you. Most of your time will be wasted sitting around waiting for customers to come into the shop, then fighting with other makeup artists to get the job.

When I first started freelancing as a makeup artist, all my friends and old colleagues told me that I was crazy. They said I wouldn't make any money. In fact, they laughed behind my back. But I didn't care. I knew I was doing the right thing.

Then, one day, after a makeup trial, a new customer liked my bridal makeup design so much that she booked my services for her entire wedding day. I made $6,350 for that one day of work.

Ever since then, I never looked back.

On the other hand, if you work for someone, once a job is assigned to you by the bridal company, should you break open a bottle of champagne and start celebrating?

Not so fast. And here’s why?

Most companies give you 30% to 40% of the profit from a makeup job. But when your client introduces her friends to the company, they don’t belong to you, and you have no chance whatsoever to build up your personal network of clientele. To make matters worse, when you leave the company, you have nothing.

Essentially, you’re trading your time for a little money, but you aren’t building a business.

But if you accept jobs for yourself as a freelancer, you’ll rake in at least 60% to 70% of the profits after deducting your costs. Furthermore, the new clients who are introduced to you by your old clients belong to you.

Your clients will be loyal to you.

In this way, you will be able to multiply your income, and more importantly, recover all the investment you’ve paid to finance your new and exciting career.

Think of all the time, effort and expense you’d have gone through to become trained in one of the world’s most glamorous industries. Don’t you want to have a life of luxury? Of course you do.

I’d hate to see you end up working in some department store doing makeup as a cosmetic counter girl (with all due respect to them) because you couldn’t make ends meet. That would break my heart!

I’m so passionate about the makeup industry I want my students to get the rich rewards that they truly deserve.

For the above reasons, I strongly believe it’s much better to operate your own freelance business rather than slaving away for someone else.

The Ugly Truth About
Independent Makeup Artists...

Naturally, starting a freelance makeup business will involve some obstacles. I don’t want to make it sound like it’s as easy as pie. There will be difficulties.

For example:

You need to rent a workplace or office space. You have to spend money on advertising. And let me tell you, advertising isn’t cheap.

A one page advertisement in a wedding magazine will set you back at least $3,000. That’s for one insertion and you’re not going to place ads in only one issue or magazine.

In order to get broad exposure for your services, you’ll need a sizeable advertising budget. While advertising is one of the costs; it’s not the only cost. There are many other costs. We can talk about them later when we meet.

What’s the bottom line?

Well, if you are qualified to be my bridal makeup student, I will help you to reduce a portion of your business operating expense. I will assist you in advertising, promote your portfolio, source jobs for you and make sure you avoid marketing mistakes that could hold you back from growing your business as fast as humanely possible.

Before I embarked on my journey of becoming an independent makeup artist, I was heavily involved in marketing for the hospitality industry. I worked with multi-million dollar sales and marketing budgets and was responsible for generating massive influxes of revenue for multinational companies competing in cutthroat markets.

Rest assured, I know what works and what doesn’t. At the present, roughly half of my clients come from advertising, and the other half comes from referrals. I can show you how to do the same.

Simply put, you will be...

in business for yourself,
but not by yourself!

Starting a business is hard enough, but starting a business by yourself is even harder. A smart business woman (man) will surround herself with people who can point her in the right direction.

I’ll be the lighthouse for your business… illuminating treacherous rocky shores… and allowing you to sail safely into the harbor of financial security and personal fulfillment that you’ve been waiting for so long.

Together, we’ll build your makeup practice quickly and easily without the frustrations, hassles, headaches and stress faced by the majority of makeup artists.

By the way, there’s something important about me I think you should know…

I’m a new mother. My son is a two years old. I love him more than life itself and I want to spend as much time with him as he grows up into a caring, noble, productive young man… before… this big, bad world of ours gets a hold of him and turns him into another “Edison Chen”

As a result, I seldom accept bridal makeup jobs these days. That's because it usually takes a whole day or a whole night. Which is too long for me to be away from my family.

Consequently, I give jobs to my cooperative makeup artists who have been strictly trained in my makeup creation techniques or have exceptional makeup application skills. (Unless the client insist on me doing their makeup, my priority is to match suitable makeup artists with my customers). Thus, even if I don’t advertise, you can expect to get jobs.

This is a major difference between me and the other “brand name” schools that train makeup artists. I always tell my students, you might not receive a commercial document to hang on your wall or brag to your friends about (the truth is, I’ve never had a single customer ever ask me to show them my makeup training certificates)… but… I’ll put you on the bullet train of building a profitable, thriving and reputable bridal image design business with a reputation of surpassing your customers expectations beyond their wildest dreams… while in the process creat a never-ending stream of cash-carrying customers begging you to take them on as clients.

Listen, I don’t own a large school. In addition, I only work with a handful of students at any one time since my goal is to ensure each and every student receives enough attention and feedback so they don’t continue to make the same mistakes over and over again. Mistakes that can lead to a bad reputation due to a botched makeup job, or worst yet, ruin a business.

The fact is, my makeup training school is not the biggest (nor the most expensive), but I sincerely believe, it’s the best in terms of providing a comprehensive platform for makeup artist who are serious about starting a career in one of the fastest growing “glamour” markets in Asia, if not the world.

Many of my clients and students constantly tell me how impressed they are with my makeup image designing abilities. My bridal image creations have been featured in leading fashion magazines and I’ve worked with top models and the most discerning clients whose tastes are so refined they get invitations to V.I.P. fashion shows… in Europe. Still, none of that matters to me.

My success is dependent on your success. Dependent on you getting good, getting connected (to a sea of customers)… and… getting paid!

Then and only then will your reputation mean anything. Because your reputation will come from the amazing results you deliver for your clients and, from your business acumen… not your institutional achievements.

If you remember nothing else, remember that no makeup school, no matter how large or prestigious they may seem can sell you a reputation “in-a-box” or, hand you a ready-made, turnkey business on a silver platter. A reputation worthy of attaining must be earned.

One last thing and we’re finished here.

You might be wondering how I can offer jobs to everyone with so many students? Well, let me tell you. First, not everyone wants to do bridal makeup as a career. Some learn to do makeup on themselves or for their friends. (What women doesn’t want to know the secrets of looking gorgeous all the time?)

Second, after the course, whoever has the financial ability will immediately invest in opening their own bridal makeup studio or offer makeup services to customers of their existing wedding vendor business (bridal gown boutique, wedding planner, etc.).

Third, not everyone is confident enough to take jobs right after the course. I’ve already talked about this.

Fourth, I will select only five to seven competent and surefooted makeup artist to cooperate with me. In this way I can assure each of them will have a steady flow of jobs. In some cases, a new graduate will have to wait until another makeup artist stops cooperating with me as they become self-reliant and able to generate business on their own. In general, I work with a makeup artist for at least one year (the longest one was three years).

What’s more, you don’t have to be a makeup student trained by me in order to cooperate with me. If you have already learned the art of bridal makeup from somewhere else, and feel you have a good foundation… but you are not sure about your future, feel free to get in touch with me. As long as you meet my requirements, I’m open to working with new “partners”.

The most significant job for me is to help you launch your career without making costly mistakes. It won’t happen overnight. It will require dedication and hard work. You need to give it at least one year. After one year, you might not need my help; you can do it by yourself. That will be a proud day for me and you. However, you need not worry about working as a one man (woman) band, because I will teach you, at that time, about how to plan your business as an independent bridal makeup operator.

By now, you've probably realized the most important ingredient for success is to take action when an opportunity presents itself. I don't know how you came to my website, but if you've read this far, you're aIready ahead of 99% of the population in terms of fulfilling your destiny.

P.S.

Previously, I mentioned I have a son and that I’d like to spend as much time as I can with him and his Daddy Hence, my schedule is very tight. If you really want to fast track your career as a sought-after professional makeup artist or start your own business as a high-paid freelance bridal makeup artist, please contact me as soon as possible while you’re thinking about it.

The tuition is reasonable at the moment, just several thousand for 30 hours of Bridal Makeup Artist: A Practical Course, which is affordable for many students. So, you don’t need to worry about the tuition. I don’t mean that once you contact me you have to enroll in the course. But after we talk, whether you choose to take my course or not, I guarantee it will be a worthwhile discussion.

Also, I promise if you’re not right for the course, I will be honest and tell you so. However, you won’t know until we talk.

(Act now to secure your spot. I will definitely raise tuition fees in 2010 since there hasn't been a fee change in over two years. The revised tuition could go in effect tomorrow, or in a month's time. I haven't decided yet. But one thing's for sure, the sooner you get started today, the more money you'll save for tomorrow. My students keep telling me I’m offering too much, yet charging too little. I agree with them.)
